Shaheed Abdul Quader Mollah has become a name uttered with reverence in thousands of households throughout the world today. He was born in 1948. Molla was known in political arena for his adroit political liaisons. Till death he was discharging the responsibility of one of Assistant Secretary Generals of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh. Born at Jariperdangi at Sadarpur under Faridpur District Abdul Quader Molla belonged to a noble family known as a very religious family. He started his schooling in Jariperdangi Government Primary School. He was a brilliant student all along. He got both primary as well as junior Scholarships in 1959 and 1961 respectively. Therefore he passed the S.S.C. examination in the first division from Amirabad Fazlul Haq Institute in Faridpur in 1964.
Then he got himself admitted into Rajendra College in the same district and passed the H.S.C examination with good result in 1966. In 1968 he did his B. Sc from the same college. But he had to take teaching and continued the job for one year due to his acute pecuniary crisis. Consequently he could not continue his studies then. In 1970 he was admitted into University of Dhaka, Department of Physics. Unfortunately he did not sit for M.A. Examination scheduled in 1971 owing to the Liberation War. In 1975 he stood first class first in the Diploma in Education Examination in Social Science breaking the past record. Then he did his Master in Educational Administration in 1977 and was also placed first class first. Mr. Molla entered teaching profession from his student career.
In 1977 he joined one of renowned schools in Dhaka City named Udayan High School located in the heart of Dhaka University as a part-time teacher. After publishing his M. Ed Examination he joined Bangladesh Rifles Public School and College as a Senior Teacher and subsequently served as Acting Principal of the same. Apart from teaching he joined Islamic Foundation Bangladesh as the cultural officer. In 1978 he joined Bangladesh Islamic Centre as Research Scholar. He was also founder-Secretary of Manarat International School and College in Dhaka City till 1979. In 1981 Mr. Molla started working in the esteemed Bengali Daily Dainik Sangram as Executive Editor. Since then he had close association with journalism.
Abdul Quader Molla had a long and fruitful political career. While studying in class eight he was impressed with Communism and joined Chhatra Union, the Communist Party’s student wing. He was in that organisation until 1966. After the H.S.C Examination he was introduced with an epoch-making Tafsir in the twentieth Century titled Tafhimul Quran written by Maulana Maududi and went through the Tafsir eagerly. Soon by dint of the impact of studying the Tafhimul Quran he made the courageous move to commit himself to Islam and joined the then Student Islamic Movement named Islami Chhatra Sangha East Pakistan unit in August 1966. In 1970 he became member (Rukn) of the Organization. Afterwards he held various responsible positions of the students Islamic Movement. He was President of Islami Chhatra Sangha Shahidullah Hall Unit. At a later period he was elected as President of Chhatra Sangha Dhaka University Unit. Then he discharged the responsibility of Secretary of Chhatra Sangha Dhaka City Unit. Besides, he was also a member of Central Executive Committee of Students Islamic Movement. After his remarkable student career Mr. Molla joined greater Islamic Movement i.e. Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh in May 1977 and took oath as Rukn (member) in November 1978. Then he was appointed as Private Secretary of elderly leader and former Ameer-e-Jamaat Prof. Ghulam Azam. Afterwards he was elected as shoora and working Committee member of Jamaat Dhaka City Unit. Within a short span of time he became a member of Central Majlis -e-Shoora of the Jamaat. In 1992 he was appointed as Secretary of Jamaat Dhaka City Unit and City Nayeb-e-Ameer afterwards.
In 1985 Mr. Molla was elected as Ameer of Jamaat Dhaka City Unit and also member of Central Working Committee. He was given the responsibility of Central Publicity Secretary in 1991 and is still discharging the onerous responsibility. In 2000 he was appointed Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh. In addition to the above responsibilities he was one of members of 4-Party Liaison Committee of the movement against Awami League government. Mr. Molla underwent imprisonment four times. Due to active participation in the movement against Ayub regime he was first arrested in 1964. In 1972 he was arrested without any provocation. But soon he got free from the local police station custody in the face of widely demonstration staged by the local people. Abdul Quader Molla was again detained for his important role against General Ershad rule. Later on, the High court declared his detention illegal and he was released after four months. Last of all the then BNP government arrested him in February 1996 for his role in the Caretaker movement. Mr. Molla was a good social worker. He was elected Vice President of combined Dhaka Union of Journalist (DUJ) for two consecutive terms from 1982 to 1983.
He was actively involved in many educational institutions and social welfare organizations such as Badshah Faisal Institute, Islamic Education Society and its School Managing Committee, Sadarpur Madrasha and Orphanage and Hajidangi Khademul Islam Madrasha and Orphanage under Faridpur district and Sayyid Abdul A’la Maududi Academy. He was the Adviser of the above mentioned Madrasha and orphanages. Besides he was Secretary of Badshah Faisal Institute and its Trust for three consecutive terms and founder Secretary of Manarat International School & College. Mr. Molla used to write columns, articles on current affairs at home and abroad. He also wrote on different aspects of Islam. His well-thought columns and articles had regularly been published in different dailies, weeklies, monthlies and magazines. Moreover his scientific criticism on materialism, communism attracts the learned society indeed. Mr. Molla travelled many countries of the world. He visited Saudi Arabia , United Arab Emirate (UAE), Japan , Singapore , Pakistan and India . Mr. Molla married Begum Sanwar Jahan on 8 October 1977.
They were blessed with two sons and four daughters. All of them are studying in reputed institutions and are associated with Islamic Movement. It may be noted that Begum Sanwar Jahan is a Rukun of the Jamaat and a member of the central Unit of Jamaat. Mr. Molla was very fond of reading Al-Quran and listening to its fascinating recitation. Though he was awfully busy in current politics and organizational work, he often managed time to concentrate on going through writings of different outstanding writers and poets including Allama Iqbal, Sayyed Abul A’la Maududi, Sayed Qutb, Mohammad Qutb, national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, Farruk Ahmad and so on.

সামাজিক নেতা হিসাবে আব্দুল কাদের মোল্লা একটি পরিচিত নাম। তার জন্ম ১৯৪৮ সালে। ফরিদপুর জেলার সদরপুর থানার জরিপারডঙ্গী গ্রামে তিনি জন্ম গ্রহণ করেছেন। ধার্মিক একটি সম্ভ্রান্ত পরিবারে তার বেড়ে ওঠা। বড় হন তার পরিবার একটি। তার গ্রামের জরিপারডঙ্গী সরকারী প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়েই তার শিক্ষা জীবনের শুরু। বরাবরই তিনি ছিলেন একজন মেধাবী ছাত্র। তিনি যথাক্রমে ১৯৫৯ ও ১৯৬১ সালে প্রাথমিক ও মাধ্যমিক শিক্ষা বৃত্তি লাভ করেন। তিনি ১৯৬৪ সালে আমিরাবাদ ফজলুল হক ইন্সিটিউট থেকে প্রথম শ্রেণীতে মাধ্যমিক পরিক্ষায় কৃতকার্য হন।
এরপর তিনি একই জেলার রাজেন্দ্র কলেজে ভর্তি হন। কৃতিত্বের সাথে ১৯৬৬ সালে উচ্চমাধ্যমিক পরিক্ষায় উত্তীর্ন হন তিনি। ১৯৬৮ সালে তিনি একই কলেজ থেকে বিএসসি পাশ করেন। কিন্তু প্রবল আর্থিক সংকটের কারনে এরপর তাকে শিক্ষকতা পেশায় আত্মনিয়োগ করতে হয়। পড়ালেখা চালিয়ে যাওয়া হয়নি তখন আর। পরবর্তীতে ১৯৭০ সালে তিনি ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পদার্থ বিজ্ঞান বিভাগে ভর্তি হন। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের কারনে ১৯৭১ সালে তার মাস্টার্স পরীক্ষা দেয়া হয়ে ওঠেনাই। ১৯৭৫ সালে তিনি সামাজিক বিজ্ঞানের শিক্ষা প্রশাসনের ডিপ্লোমায় অতীতের সকল রেকর্ড ভঙ্গ করে প্রথম শ্রেণীতে প্রথম স্থান অধিকার করেন। পরে ১৯৭৭ সালে তিনি শিক্ষা প্রশাসন থেকে মাস্টার্স ডিগ্রী অর্জন করেন। এখানেও তিনি প্রথম শ্রেনীতে প্রথম হন। জনাব মোল্লা তার ছাত্র জীবন থেকেই শিক্ষকতা পেশায় যোগদান করেন। ১৯৭৭ সালে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রাণকেন্দ্রে অবস্থিত ঢাকার বিখ্যাত বিদ্যাপীঠ উদয়ন মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়ের খন্ডকালীন শিক্ষক হিসাবে যোগদান করেন।
তার এম,এড পরীক্ষার রেজাল্টের পরে তিনি বাংলাদেশ রাইফেলস পাবলিক স্কুল এন্ড কলেজের সিনিয়র শিক্ষক হিসাবে যোগদান করেন। পরে তিনি একই প্রতিষ্ঠানের ভারপ্রাপ্ত অধ্যক্ষের দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। সেখান থেকে তিনি ইসলামী ফাউন্ডেশন বাংলাদেশে সংস্কৃতি কর্মকর্তা হিসাবে যোগ দেন। ১৯৭৮ সালে রিসার্স স্কলার হিসাবে বাংলাদেশ ইসলামী সেন্টারে যোগ দেন। ১৯৭৯ সাল পর্যন্ত তিনি মানারাত ইন্টারন্যাশনাল স্কুল এন্ড কলেজের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সেক্রেটারি হিসাবে ছিলেন। ১৯৮১ সালে জনাব মোল্লা বিখ্যাত দৈনিক সংগ্রাম পত্রিকার নির্বাহী সম্পাদক হিসাবে যুক্ত হন। তখন থেকেই তিনি সাংবাদিকতার সাথে জড়িত ছিলেন।
জনাব আব্দুল কাদের মোল্লার রয়েছে সংগ্রামী রাজনৈতিক ক্যারিয়ার। অষ্টম শ্রেণীতে অধ্যায়নকালেই তিনি কম্যূনিজমের প্রতি আকৃষ্ট হন এবং কম্যূনিষ্ট পার্টির ছাত্র সংগঠন ছাত্রইউনিয়নে যোগ দেন। ১৯৬৬ সাল পর্যন্ত তিনি এ সংগঠনের সাথে যুক্ত থাকেন। উচ্চমাধ্যমিক পরীক্ষার পরে তিনি বিংশ শতাব্দীর বিখ্যাত তাফসীর গ্রন্থ মাওলানা মওদূদী লিখিত তাফহীমুল কুরআনের সাথে পরিচিত হন। আগ্রহের সাথে তিনি এ গ্রন্থ পড়তে থাকেন।
তাফহীমুল কুরআনের হৃদয়স্পর্শী ছোঁয়ায় তিনি ইসলামের প্রতি প্রবল আকর্ষীত হন এবং ১৯৬৬ সালে তৎকালীন ইসলামী ছাত্র আন্দোলন ইসলামী ছাত্রসংঘের পূর্বপাকিস্তান শাখায় যোগদান করেন। ১৯৭০ সালে তিনি এ সংগঠনের সদস্য হন। পরবর্তীতে তিনি ইসলামী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ের গুরুত্বপূর্ন দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। ইসলামী ছাত্রসংঘের শহিদুল্লাহ হল শাখার সভাপতি ছিলেন তিনি। পরবর্তীতে তিনি ছাত্রসংঘের ঢাকা বিশব্বিদ্যালয় শাখার সভাপতি নির্বাচিত হন। অতঃপর তার উপর ঢাকা নগরী ছাত্রসংঘের সেক্রেটারীর দায়িত্ব অর্পিত হয়। একই সাথে তিনি কেন্দ্রীয় কার্যকরী পরিষদের সদস্য ছিলেন।
তার বর্নীল ছাত্রজীবন শেষে ১৯৭৭ সালের মে মাসে তিনি বৃহত্তর ইসলামী আন্দোলন, জামায়াতে ইসলামী বাংলাদেশে যোগ দেন এবং ১৯৭৮ সালের নভেম্বর মাসে রুকন শপথ নেন। অতঃপর তাকে প্রবীণ বর্ষীয়ান নেতা জামায়াতে ইসলামী বাংলাদেশের সাবেক আমীর অধ্যাপক গোলাম আযমের ব্যাক্তিগত সেক্রেটারি হিসাবে নিয়োগ দেয়া হয়। তিনি জামায়াত ঢাকা মহানগরীর শূরা সদস্য ও কর্মপরিষদ সদস্য নির্বাচিত হন। অল্পদিনের ব্যাবধানে তিনি জামায়াতের কেন্দ্রীয় মজলিশ-এ-শূরার সদস্য হন। ১৯৯২ সালে তাকে ঢাকা মহানগরী জামায়াতের সেক্রেটারির দায়িত্ব দেয়া হয়। পরবর্তীতে তিনি ঢাকা মহানগরীর নায়েব-এ-আমীরের দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।
১৯৮৫ সালে জনাব মোল্লা জামায়াতে ইসলামী ঢাকা মহানগরীর আমীর নির্বাচিত হন এবং কেন্দ্রিয় কর্মপরিষদের সদস্য হন। ১৯৯১ সালে তাকে কেন্দ্রীয় প্রচার সম্পাদকের দায়িত্ব দেয়া হয় এবং উক্ত দায়িত্ব তিনি নিষ্ঠার সাথে পালন করতে থাকেন। ২০০০ সালে তাকে জামায়াতে ইসলামী বাংলাদেশের এসিস্ট্যান্ট সেক্রেটারি জেনারেলের দায়িত্ব দেয়া হয়। উক্ত দায়িত্বের পাশাপাশি আওয়ামীলীগ সরকার বিরোধী আন্দোলনে তিনি চার দলীয় জোটের লিয়াজো কমিটির গুরুত্বপূর্ন সদস্য হিসাবে নিয়োজিত ছিলেন।
জনাব মোল্লাকে বিভিন্ন মেয়াদে চার চারবার জেলে যেতে হয়। আইয়ুব সরকারের নির্যাতনের বিরুদ্ধে আন্দোলনে সক্রিয় ভূমিকা পালনের দায়ে ১৯৬৪ সালে প্রথমবারের মত তিনি গ্রেপ্তার হন। জেলে যেতে হয়। বিনা উস্কানীতে ১৯৭২ সালে তিনি আবার গ্রেপ্তার হন। কিন্তু স্থানীয় জনতার বিক্ষোভের মুখে পুলিশ তাকে স্থানীয় পুলিশ স্টেশন কাস্টোডী থেকেই ছেড়ে দিতে বাধ্য হন। জেনারেল এরশাদের শাসনের বিরুদ্ধে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালনের কারনে আব্দুল কাদের মোল্লাকে আবারও আটক করে রাখা হয়। পরে উচ্চ আদালত তার এ আটকাদেশকে আবৈধ ঘোষণা করলে চার মাশ পরে তিনি মুক্ত হন। তত্ত্বাবধায়ক সরকারের আন্দোলন করায় তৎকালীন বিএনপি সরকার ১৯৯৬ সালের ফেব্রুয়ারী মাসে তাকে আটক করে।
জনাব মোল্লা একজন উত্তম সমাজসেবক। ১৯৮২ ও ১৯৮৩ সালে তিনি পরপর দুই বছর ঢাকা ইউনিয়ন অব জার্নালিস্ট (ডি ইউ জে) এর সহসভাপতি নির্বাচিত হন।
তিনি সক্রিয়ভাবে বিভিন্ন শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান এবং সামাজিক সংস্থার সাথে যুক্ত। এদের মধ্যে বাদশাহ ফয়সাল ইন্সটিটিউট, ইসলামিক ফাউন্ডেশন সোসাইটি ও এর স্কুল ম্যানেজিং কমিটি, সদরপুর মাদরাসা ও এতিমখানা, ফরিদপুর জেলার হাজিডাঙ্গি খাদেমুল ইসলাম মাদরাসা ও এতিমখানা, সাইয়্যেদ আবুল আ’লা মওদূদী একাডেমী অন্যতম। তিনি এসব মাদরাসা ও এতিমখানার উপদেষ্টার ভূমিকা পালন করে আসছেন। এছাড়াও তিনি পরপর তিন মেয়াদের জন্য বাদশাহ ফয়সাল ইন্সটিটিউট ও এর ট্রাস্টের সেক্রেটারির দায়িত্ব পালন করেন। মানারাত ইন্টারন্যাশনাল স্কুল ও কলেজের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সেক্রেটারি ছিলেন। জনাব মোল্লা দেশ বিদেশের সমসাময়িক বিষয়ের উপর কলাম ও প্রবন্ধ লিখে আসছেন। ইসলামের বিভিন্ন দিকের উপরো তার লেখা পাওয়া যায়। তার সুচিন্তিত কলাম ও প্রবন্ধ বিভিন্ন সময়ে বিভিন্ন দৈনিক, সাপ্তাহিক, মাসিক পত্রিকা ও ম্যাগাজিনে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। এছাড়াও বস্তুবাদ, কম্যূনিজমের উপরে তার বৈজ্ঞানিক সমালোচনা শিক্ষিত মহলের কাছে সমাদৃত হয়েছে।
জনাব মোল্লা ইতোমধ্যেই বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশ ভ্রমন করেছেন। এরই মধ্যে তিনি সৌদি আরব, সংযুক্ত আরব আমিরাত, জাপান, সিঙ্গাপুর, পাকিস্তান ও ভারতে সফর করেছেন।
জনাব মোল্লা বেগম সানোয়ার জাহানের সাথে ১৯৭৭ সালের ৮ অক্টোবর তারিখে বিবাহ বন্ধনে আবদ্ধ হন। দুই পুত্র ও চার কন্যার সুখি সংসার তাদের। সব সন্তানই বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানে পড়ালেখা করছেন। সবাই ইসলামী আন্দোলনের সাথে জড়িত। বেগম সানোয়ার জাহান জামায়াতের রুকন।
জনাব মোল্লা নিয়মিত কুরআন পড়তে ও কুরআন তেলাওয়াত শুনতে পছন্দ করতেন। তিনি সাংগঠনিক ব্যাস্তময় সময় থেকে তিনি বিভিন্ন বিখ্যাত লেখক, কবি- যেমন আল্লামা ইকবাল, সাইয়্যেদ আবুল আ’লা মওদূদী, সাইয়্যেদ কুতুব, মোহাম্মাদ কুতুব, জাতীয় কবি কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম, ফররুখ আহমেদ সহ বিখ্যাত লেখকদের লেখা পড়ার জন্য নিয়মিত সময় বের করতেন।
